Divisions

The objective of the West Hartford Youth Football League (WHYFL) is to instill in the youth of the town the principles of good citizenship, sportsmanship, and teamwork through the knowledge of and association in the competitive sport of football. The league is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 14 who reside in or attend school in West Hartford.

Flag Division

The Instructional/Flag Division shall be comprised of boys and girls in grades 1st through 8th entering the current schoool year. There are no weight restrictions. Practices will be held once a week and games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays.

There will be four flag divisions, including:
Bantam - 1st & 2nd grade
Mighty Mite - 3rd & 4th grade
Pee Wee - 5th & 6th grade
Pony - 7th & 8th grade

 

Mighty Mite Division

The Mighty Mite Division shall be comprised of boys and girls in 3rd & 4th grade as of September 1 of each year. Any player whose weight exceeds 125 lbs with pads shall be limited to the interior offensive and defensive lines (Tackle to Tackle) in a down position. No special teams are allowed for players in excess of 125 lbs.  Players eligible to run with or catch the ball (skilled positions) must not exceed 115 lbs. All weights are with standard league equipment and cleats (excluding helmets). Practices are held 3 days a week and games are played on Sundays @12:00 pm or 2:00 p.m.




 

Pee Wee Division

The Pee Wee Division shall be comprised of boys and girls in 5th & 6th grade as of September 1 of the current year. Any player whose weight exceeds 150 lbs with pads shall be limited to the interior offensive and defensive lines (Tackle to Tackle) in a down position. No special teams are allowed for players in excess of 150 lbs.  Players eligible to run with or catch the ball (skilled positions) must not exceed 125 lbs. All weights are with standard league equipment and cleats (excluding helmets). Practices are held 3 days a week and games are played on Sundays @ 12:00 pm or 2:00 p.m.

 


 

Pony Division

The Pony Division shall be comprised of: 1) boys and girls in 7th & 8th grade as of September 1 of the current year. No 15 year olds nor 9th graders will be eligible to play in this Division. Practices are held 3 days a week and games are played on Sundays @12:00 p.m, 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm.
